Almost all Apple apps will no longer work on old iPhones

Do you still use an old iPhone? Then read on, because it seems that almost all Apple apps will soon no longer work on old iPhones.

Read on after the ad.

Apple apps no longer work on old iPhones

Due to a recent document from Apple, it seems very likely that Apple apps will no longer work on (too) old iPhones. For example, if you still have an iPhone 3GS, all Apple apps will still work. For example, it is still possible to send messages via iMessage and to use the App Store. However, it is often no longer possible to install apps because they do not support old iOS versions.

From May, these Apple apps are expected to no longer work on older devices. As a result, services such as Siri, Maps and FaceTime will no longer be used. It is unclear why Apple is now making this choice. This may be due to a new update for all apps from Apple, which cannot be installed with an outdated iOS version.

Services no longer work with iOS 11 or lower

If the rumors are to be believed, support for Apple’s apps will end on all devices running iOS versions of 2017 or earlier. iOS 11 came out that year, so if you still have an iPhone running iOS 11 or lower, chances are you won’t be able to use Apple’s services starting next month.

The same applies to macOS, tvOS and watchOS. Apple’s services also expire with these operating systems for systems that run on too old OS versions. From macOS 10.13, tvOS 11 and watchOS 4 or lower, you lose access to Apple’s standard apps. For example, you will no longer be able to send messages or download apps from Apple with an old iPhone if you do not perform the new OS update.

iCloud will remain available

Good to know: iCloud is the only app from Apple that remains available on old iPhones. So you can still make a backup in iCloud and save your photos in your digital storage. It is still advisable to update your device to the latest OS version if possible. The latest software often contains security updates, so that your files remain well protected.

Fortunately, the chance that you will no longer be able to use Apple’s services on your iPhone is small. According to Apple, only 8 percent of all iPhones run iOS 14 or lower. So there is a good chance that you have already installed a newer version on your iPhone. Isn’t that the case?
