all rumours

A new luxury iPhone will appear on the market this year. What do we know about the iPhone 15 Ultra so far? iPhoned put the rumors together.

Read on after the ad.

iPhone 15 Ultra

The iPhone 15 will appear this year – just like the iPhone 14 – in four different models. Three of them are similar to the iPhone 14, namely the ‘normal’ iPhone 15, the iPhone 15 Plus and the iPhone 15 Pro. The iPhone 15 Pro Max will disappear and be replaced by the iPhone 15 Ultra.

Apple probably chooses this new name because the iPhone 15 Ultra will have even more functions than the iPhone 15 Pro. We put together all iPhone 15 Ultra rumors for you.

iPhone 15 Ultra: much improved camera

The iPhone 15 Ultra is expected to have a (much) better camera. The smartphone will probably be equipped with a periscope lens. With this technique, Apple’s phone can zoom in enormously. It also ensures that the iPhone can capture a natural depth of field (photos with a blurred foreground or background).

With a periscope lens, it is possible to make the iPhone 15 Ultra a bit thinner again. After all, the iPhone is getting thinner and thinner, but the camera has to get a little better every time. That doesn’t actually go together. Due to the narrow design, there is no room for a large lens. That is why this periscope lens is the solution, because the thin design is no longer a problem. After all, the lenses no longer have to be placed in a line in the housing.

iPhone 15 Ultra gets titanium edges

The design of the iPhone 15 Ultra is also being overhauled. The phone will therefore be thinner, but will also be made of other materials. For example, the high-end phone gets edges made of titanium, making your phone sturdy and light at the same time. Good news if you ever drop your phone, because that way the corners are less vulnerable.

These edges of the phone are not straight as we are used to, but are semi-rounded. We recognize this from the iPhone 11. The back of the phone is most likely made of glass, which gives the phone a luxurious look.

Physical buttons disappear with the iPhone 15 Ultra

According to recent rumors, the iPhone 15 Ultra will no longer have buttons that you can physically press. Apple is switching to buttons that vibrate when you press them. We already know this from the home button of the iPhone 7, iPhone 8, iPhone SE 2020 and iPhone SE 2022. Taptic Engines then ensure that the place where the ‘buttons’ are located vibrate when you press them. That way it still feels like you’re pressing a button.

The main benefit: the iPhone 15 Ultra is more water and dust resistant without physical buttons. With physical buttons, water or dust can sometimes get into the iPhone, but this is no longer possible with the new special buttons. The downside: you can only use the buttons when you touch them with your finger. Turning the music down with gloves on is therefore a thing of the past.

Usb-c connection and new Dynamic Island

The new iPhones will be equipped with a USB-C connection next year. That’s good news: you can charge your MacBook and iPhone with the same cable and transfer files faster. With the USB connection, Apple meets the requirements set by the European Union from 2024.

In addition, the iPhone 15 Ultra will receive a new version of the Dynamic Island. The feature was introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro and is expanded with the iPhone 15 Ultra with a second selfie camera. It remains to be seen whether this is an ultra-wide-angle lens or a second lens that allows the camera to see depth.

This is when we expect the iPhone 15 Ultra

The release date of the iPhone 15 Ultra is most likely in September, the month in which Apple usually presents the new iPhones every year. Can’t wait for a new high-end iPhone? Check out the best prices for the iPhone 14 Pro (Max):
