Almost a year will pass before the iPhone 15 is presented. Nevertheless, numerous rumors are already accumulating and there are leaks here and there about the new Apple cell phone. We’ll tell you which features you can hope for in autumn 2023.

Apple

No sooner has the iPhone 14 been presented than the rumor mill is already bubbling up about the iPhone 15. This much is clear: Apple’s upcoming smartphone is likely to appear again in four model variants and will most likely be presented as planned in September 2023. But what new functions and features are expected?

iPhone 15: Apple’s new features for mobile phones

At this point we summarize the current state of affairs. The following features are up for discussion and have already been mentioned here and there over the last few weeks and months. Of course there is no guarantee for this. Apple is still testing many of the features, not all are final and a lot can still happen before release. Still, these are the properties currently on the to-do list:

  • USB-C instead of Lightning: Apple still uses the classic Lightning connector on the iPhone. This will change because Apple will be forced by the EU to switch to USB-C by 2024 at the latest. The manufacturer has now confirmed this step and has shown its willingness to do so. Rumor has it that Apple won’t wait until 2024, but will be ready by 2023 with the iPhone 15.
  • Dynamic Island: It is the most visible feature of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Next year, the multifunctional notch alternative will also be available for the two standard models. Ergo: In contrast to the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus should actually be visually upgraded.
  • Fake Buttons: The Pro models could do without classic buttons for the on/off switch and volume control. There are “fake buttons” for that – sensor surfaces, so to speak, which, when pressed, simulate a stroke solely through vibration. Apple already uses the technology for the home button of the iPhone (currently still in the iPhone SE) and the trackpad of the MacBooks.

The iPhone 14 already comes in four model variants and two display sizes:

  • Size and screens: Nothing changes here. Accordingly, it remains at 6.1 inches for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro and 6.7 inches for the iPhone 15 Plus and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Differences in screen technology will probably remain with us. 120 Hz for the standard model would be nice, but it is better not to hope for that just yet.
  • Optical zoom lens: The competition is already using so-called periscope lenses. They enable a real optical zoom in a small space. Apple is also working on it and could at least give the two Pro models a better camera with an optical zoom of up to ten times. However, it is possible that only the large Pro model will have the long-awaited feature.
  • Name change: A new designation is in play. Equivalent to the new Apple Watch Ultra, Apple could rename the iPhone 15 Pro Max to the iPhone 15 Ultra. The nomenclature would be more consistent and easier to understand in one fell swoop: iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Ultra.
  • New Apple chip: The Apple A17 is expected for the Pro models. This chip is to be produced for the first time in 3 nm technology. According to experts, this jump is good for a performance increase of up to 15 percent. Even more important: At the same time, the new chip should save up to 30 percent in electricity. The standard models, on the other hand, have to be content with this year’s A16 of the iPhone 14 Pro (Max).
  • More memory: Even with the iPhone 14 Pro (Max), there was speculation in advance about more RAM. The successor should really come to that – 8 GB instead of 6 GB RAM. The increase is rumored to be necessary for new features such as the periscope camera.

And this is what the iPhone 15 Pro could end up looking like:

Price question still unclear

Bottom line: A picture of the future iPhone 15 is already emerging today. As is usual with Apple, the big revolutions are initially absent, but many detailed improvements ensure a meaningful evolution of the Californian smartphones. One can currently only speculate about the prices. There won’t be any major changes on the home market. In Germany, however, everything depends on the euro and its positioning against the US dollar. If our currency picks up again, it could become cheaper. Otherwise it remains expensive.
