The most reliable iPhone 15 rumors

The iPhone 14 (Pro) has only just arrived. However, there are already many rumors about the successor: the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Pro models. Will the normal iPhone 15 also get a Dynamic Island next year? Will we finally see a USB port with this new flagship?

1. iPhone 15 design, sizes and display

According to all rumors, the iPhone 15 (Pro) ‘just’ will get a 6.1-inch display again. In addition, we expect another large version (the iPhone 15 Plus) with a 6.7-inch display. According to current rumors, the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plus will get the Dynamic Island this year. This replaces the notch that you still see on the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus.

However, other display functions remain exclusive to the Pro models. For example, we will still not find ProMotion technology in the ‘normal’ iPhone 15 next year. This allows the screen of the iPhone 14 Pro (Max) to refresh at a rate of 1Hz or even 120Hz. That means that the regular iPhone 15 (Plus) also does not get an always-on display.

Then what about iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max? It looks like everything in terms of screen and sizes will stay the same. The design will probably change a bit. The iPhone 15 still gets buttons, but you can no longer physically press them. You ‘feel’ through motors that you are pressing the button.

2. From Lightning to USB-C Port

The bullet is through the church: Apple must now give the iPhone 15 USB-C. The EU has been working on legislation around a universal connection for electronic devices for some time and has now finally passed it.

All new electronic devices must have a USB-C connection by 2024. According to the (almost confirmed) rumors, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will get a USB-c port.

There is still one thing. According to analysts, the iPhone 15 Pro (Max) will not only support USB-C, but also Thunderbolt. These connectors are exactly the same design, but they are different! If this proves true, Apple will follow the tactics of the iPad Pro models, which already support both Thunderbolt and USB-C.

3. Improvements to the camera (especially for the iPhone 15 Pro Max)

If we are to believe all the rumors, Apple is going to build on the camera upgrades of the iPhone 14 Pro (Max). So with 48 MP, pixel binning and some other cool software features. Initially, it was rumored that the iPhone 15 Pro models would get a new ‘8P’ (eight internal lenses) camera on the rear. But according to recent rumors, this turned out not to be the case. With this upgrade, photos would suffer even less from distortion.

Still, according to the rumors, there is one new camera function of the iPhone 15 that we are really looking forward to. The iPhone 15 Pro Max is expected to get a periscope lens for the first time. This is a mirror that reflects light at an angle of 90 degrees to the camera sensor. There is then more space for the internal lenses and that is good news. The iPhone 15 Pro Max will probably be able to zoom in further than ever.

4. New chip for iPhone 15 line up

The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are rumored to be powered by the A16 Bionic chip that we already find in the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. That means the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max can (and should) get even better chips. Apple wants to be able to distinguish the Pro models in computing power from the normal flagships.

These are expected to use the A17 Bionic processor. This new unannounced chip is more efficient, faster and more powerful than its predecessor. With the arrival of this A17 Bionic chip, some sources believe that the iPhone 15 Pro will now get 8GB of RAM.

5. Marketing and Naming the iPhone 15

Apple also seems to be making plans for the iPhone 15 in terms of naming and strategy. The company wants to make the iPhone 15 Pro Max the Apple phone of 2023. The fact that only the iPhone 15 Pro Max will get a periscope camera illustrates this nicely.

That is why the iPhone 15 Pro Max must be clearly distinguishable from the iPhone 15 Pro. Rumors therefore say that the iPhone 15 Pro Max will be called the ‘iPhone 15 Ultra’ next year. This is not very crazy. We also saw the very best Apple Watch get this ‘Ultra’ label at the last minute.
