Does Google Assistant not understand a (place) name? You can do this

Google Assistant sometimes has trouble understanding certain contacts or place names. This is how calling or navigating naturally goes wrong. That is very difficult if you regularly have to call that particular contact or often drive there that particular place. android world comes up with a solution.

Google Assistant doesn’t understand you

Some names or place names are just a bit more complicated than others. And both you and the Google Assistant may struggle to get the hang of pronunciation completely. Edinburgh, the Scottish capital, is one such example.

Of course it’s annoying that voice commands don’t work when you often still have the name of a contact or the specific place. You can solve this using routines for the Google Assistant. Instead of referring to the difficult place name or contact, you can use another word. We explain how it works with the step-by-step plan below:

  1. Open the Google Homeapp
  2. Press the button with Routines
  3. Choose the plus button and then before Households or Personal
  4. Press Add starter and on When I say something to the Google Assistant
  5. For example, type “Navigate to the Scottish capital” and choose Add starter
  6. Press Add action and on Enter your own command
  7. For example, type: Navigate to Edinburgh” and choose Finished
  8. Busy Save

Google Maps Labels

As soon as you say “Navigate to the Scottish capital”, the navigation to Edinburgh will automatically start. You can immediately apply the same system to names of contacts. For place names there is another alternative in the form of labels. Labels are also useful because you can navigate faster with Google Maps that way, even if you don’t use voice command.
