Alienware is a home streaming server -apkrig

Just days before the start of this year’s CES consumer electronics trade show, Alienware unveiled the concept of its game server for streaming games over a home network. As in the case of services such as GeForce Now, Stadia, Luna or Xbox Cloud Gaming, individual players will be able to connect to it and instead of playing directly at the computer or console, stream the title to of any a device that is connected to the Internet at home. Editors of Tom’s Hardware magazine were one of the first to look at the device named Alienware Concept Nyx, and according to the first information, it turns out that the server can handle up to four games at a time. On the other hand, Alienware did not provide any detailed hardware specification of the machine, which simply looks like a computer and everything remains at the concept level.

The main idea of the described game server is to allow several members of one household to play whenever they want and on any available device, whether it is a smart TV, tablet, laptop or large gaming computer. Instead of everyone connecting to the cloud and flooding the Internet connection, the game can stream over the home network and enjoy gaming without significant compromises. Of course, there will be a significant, albeit unspecified financial investment in the server, and of course the need to own individual games and have them ready to play on the server. However, if you were willing to overcome these limitations, in practice, Alienware Concept Nyx should work reliably, as the company’s representatives tried to demonstrate in a closed presentation.

It is noteworthy that Nyx also offers the option of displaying both games on a single monitor or television in split screen mode.

Cyberpunk 2077 was first launched on the server, which the presenter gradually accessed via television, laptop and computer. According to the available impressions, the picture was identical on all three devices and there was no delay or mutual desynchronization, which confirms that the possibilities of the home network are quite sufficient. On the other hand, it is worth noting that streaming games over a LAN is nothing new and players can usually access it via remote access to Steam or PlayStation and Xbox consoles, so the unique features of Nyx came into play when it was on the server. second game launched. It is noteworthy that Nyx will also offer the opportunity to display both games on one monitor or television in split screen mode, and in this way, according to Alienware, it is possible to get to the final number of 4 concurrently running titles.

Unfortunately, according to Tom’s Hardware, the participants of the presentation did not receive answers to questions regarding the degradation of image quality, resp. overall transmission, nor the fundamental questions of whether the server can also be used as a standard computer. The last piece of information remains the information about the application itself, which is most likely to stand above the applications of services such as Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, EA Play and others, and through which the individual titles will be launched. It should be possible to determine which of the running games to display and in which mode, or to switch between running titles, simply as with the Quick Resume function on the Xbox.
