‘AirPods Pro 2 will have almost the same design as their predecessors’

The design of the AirPods Pro 2 is very similar to that of the first generation, according to a new rumor. That would mean that the infamous stalks are just there again.

‘Almost the same design for AirPods Pro 2’

Over the past year, we often read that the AirPods Pro 2 are getting a new design. Apple would opt for a more compact design without the iconic and infamous stems. According to MacRumors that may be disgusting. The website thinks the design will be almost identical.

The thing is: the AirPods Pro 2 get an ear sensor, just like the ‘regular’ AirPods 3, to determine when you take the caps off. This sensor stops the music when it is no longer near your skin. The first AirPods Pro had a proximity sensor that you could easily fool by holding an earpiece against your pants, for example.

The AirPods Pro 2 would look almost the same as their predecessors

Graphic designer Ian Zelbo made a 3D model of leaked images of the AirPods Pro 2. This shows that this sensor has exactly the same position and dimensions as on the AirPods 3. That would mean that the ears themselves retain their ‘old’ shape with stalk. MacRumors makes a lot of assumptions in this line of reasoning, but he could be right.

Everything you need to know about the AirPods Pro 2

New design or not, many people are eagerly awaiting the AirPods Pro 2, which Apple is likely to launch this fall. The earbuds will probably get a better wireless chip, which should ensure a longer battery life. The charging case could also play a sound if you lose it.

In addition, Apple may provide the AirPods Pro 2 with motion sensors that you can use during exercise. Nothing is known yet about improvements in sound quality or active noise reduction.
