Äike T is a new electric scooter with a range of 40 kilometers and charging via USB
Electric scooters are booming. You see them more and more on Dutch roads, even though they are not officially allowed yet. The Estonian company Äike has designed an innovative scooter, with all kinds of functions and possibilities in mind.
Äike T electric scooter
In many different cities you can move on an electric scooter, for example from different providers such as Dott. More and more manufacturers are venturing onto the electric scooter, also known as e-scooter. Think Segway, Xiaomi and Sharp. Now there is the Estonian Äike, which presented the Äike T. This model only works with materials of European origin and many aspects have been taken into account by the group of engineering students from the Estonian capital Tallinn. They already had experience with vehicles; because they successfully designed and built electric racing cars for international competitions. Today they have an Internet-of-Things connectivity services business; a technique that is in many electric scooters today.
The students noticed many disadvantages of the electric scooters that you often encounter. Cheap, bad hardware and without sustainable production. The company already has its own electric scooters that are used by various sub-companies. Of the 3500 scooters, only seven have been written off in the past two years. This number is many times higher for sharing platforms; possibly even the same number, but per day.
Äike has now launched the Äike T, which should be much smarter and more robust than the competition. Due to the use of sturdy materials, the weight of the scooter is 19 kg. There is a 350W motor with which you can reach a top speed of 25 kilometers per hour. All this with a range of 40 kilometers, which is a lot for a scooter. Is the battery empty? Then you don’t have to look for that fat battery block, or walk back home; charging is done via the USB-C connection, so you can use the charger of your phone or laptop. With a little powerful charger, charging takes 6-8 hours. The battery is easily removable.
You can download the corresponding app for your Äike T scooter on your smartphone. With this you will immediately receive a notification if someone is unauthorized at your scooter, but you can also adjust various settings. There is a built-in alarm and an automatic brake lock. Thanks to the integrated GPS transmitter, you can follow the scooter everywhere. With the handy multi-rider function in the app, a friend can easily borrow your scooter by scanning a QR code on your smartphone.
