Slightly irritated, with children hyper from the trip, you are finally at the campsite in southern Spain. And then you are certainly not waiting for more unforeseen setbacks.

Suuz (41), mother of Mats (14), Dion (10) and Lisa (6):

“Well after ten o’clock in the evening, when it was already pitch dark, we arrived at our destination: a campsite in southern Spain. Slightly irritated by the trip full of setbacks, my husband Michael set up the tent. In the meantime I unpacked suitcases and guided the children towards showers.

Just as I was zipping the youngest into her sleeping bag, I heard a huge clamor. Mats and Dion, hyper because of the trip, played tag and collided with the tent pole that held our De Waard in place in the middle. Result: stalk in half. Michael almost exploded. He summoned Mats now to ask for a tent pole at the reception or, if necessary, to find a sturdy piece of wood that would support the canvas.

Found it

After ten minutes Mats came back. Triumphantly he held up a beautiful tent pole. Fit perfectly. He was a bit vague about the location: something with a lawn, near caravans, but definitely not from a tent. We were already happy that we could sleep.

Until the next day we walked past the mobile homes with fixed seasonal pitches. At one of the garden fences we saw that the self-made fence made of tent cloths had collapsed. Very crazy; exactly one tent pole was missing.”
