‘After one drink he already said there was no match’
That dating is different than a little flirting, became apparent during the date of single mother Nova.
Nova (41) is mother of Francine (9) and Frederiek (6):
“My ex and I had been together since we were 16. And now I was “fresh meat” in the dating market. I had no idea what to expect, I’d only been in one relationship all my life. Of course I sometimes flirted with a waiter on a terrace or in the garage when my car had a problem. But dating was a different story.

A little too nice
At the urging of friends, I made a profile on Tinder and agreed to have a drink with the first match. With my heart in my throat and two pre-drinks to relieve the tension, I stormed into the cafe a little too exuberant. My match turned out to be a nice one, but in all my nerves and insecurity I couldn’t give myself an attitude. Too busy, too hysterical and too forced, I tried to be as funny as possible. What only scared him off was when he cautiously announced after one drink that a match was not in it for him.
“In all my nerves and insecurity I could not give myself an attitude”
A painful lesson in humility, but one that I put in my pocket, because in the meantime I have a few dear friends from the dating life. Now only that one match left.”
