A Switch Pro still planned? Some believe it
What if a Switch Pro was indeed planned? Nintendo disappointed many gamers yesterday by announcing its Switch equipped with a 7-inch OLED screen. This is the only major novelty, the processor and RAM remain unchanged from the existing model.
When will the famous Switch Pro be?
For many months, rumors have evoked a Switch Pro. It was supposed to be able to play in 4K when connected to the TV, with the help of DLSS, a technology from Nvidia. But there has been nothing about it with the new model which will be available on October 8 and whose pre-orders have been open since this afternoon.
“I believe there’s always a Switch Pro coming, but for some reason, probably including the chip shortage, Nintendo hasn’t been able to release it.”, Ace Research analyst Hideki Yasuda told Nikkei. Nintendo had recognized in May that the situation with the chips was delicate. “The global chip shortage means that we are not able to produce all the products we want (…) We are doing everything possible to produce as much as possible, but our production plan is more uncertain than in previous years”, had indicated Shuntaro Furukawa, the president of the group.
(Very) good sales for the Switch
At the same time, Nintendo is seeing good sales with its consoles. The group has sold 84 million Switch and Switch Lite since their release. It expects to sell an additional 22.5 million during its fiscal year which ends in March 2022. The milestone of 100 million consoles should therefore be reached. The Switch is expected to outperform the Wii and become Nintendo’s best-selling home console of all time. If we take into account the portable models, the model with the most sales at Nintendo is the Nintendo DS and its variants with 154 million copies.
