A new generation of popular Android TV devices
Xiaomi has also been known for smart TV accessories for a few years. It was especially famous for the Mi TV Box, which was a great success thanks to its minimalist design, good performance and great price. Xiaomi also followed this success with the tiny Mi TV Stick, which is now the second generation. The news about the new Xiaomi TV Stick 4K was brought by the XDA portal.
Xiaomi TV Stick 4K: New with Android TV 11 and AV1 codec support
Xiaomi TV Stick 4K already follows the new Xiaomi device labeling format. Thus, it deleted the legendary name Mi from the name, which Xiaomi has not used since the summer of this year. The first devices to drop the syllable Mi were the Xiaomi 11T.
Although the official performance has not yet taken place, Xiaomi has already published this product on its official website. It is therefore clear that this is a new device, as the TV Stick also includes the new Xiaomi logo.
The biggest changes after a year, since the introduction of the original Mi TV Stick, are of course support for 4K, Android TV 11 and the new advanced AV1 codec. Especially the 4K support is important, given that most of the commonly available televisions sold today already have 4K. The older Mi TV Stick is suitable for older TVs that only support FullHD + resolution. Chromecast’s competition with Google TV has been supporting 4K for a year now, so Xiaomi is just catching up.
The Xiaomi TV Stick 4K is powered by a quad-core processor, the cores of which are marked Cortex-A35, and it is probably the Amlogic S905Y4 processor. The disadvantage of this small “mallet” can be, in particular, 8 GB of internal memory (which lacks the possibility of expansion – it does not support microSD cards or USB). Also last year’s Android TV 11, but considering that Google only released Android TV 12 a month ago, that’s fine. We believe that the update to a newer version of the system will come in time.
We do not have information about availability yet, but due to the fact that the older generation – Mi TV Stick – is also officially sold in our country, we believe that the mentioned newer generation will also come to us.

Competition
The clearly mentioned Google Chromecast is one of the strongest competitors. Compared to Xiaomi, it has faster software updates, but it also has only 2 GB of RAM and 8 GB of non-expandable internal memory. Chromecast also has a higher price tag.
Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K is also sold here, if you are more of an Amazon fan. The hardware is similar to the 4K TV Stick, but its software is so limited to Android. It mainly encourages you to use the Amazon App Store and Amazon applications.
