A look at the smartphone of the CEO of Kale&Me

In the “Homescreen!” series we present the homescreens of people from the social media, marketing, media and tech industries – including app recommendations and tips for everything from to-do lists to small games in between. Today: Annemarie Heyl, co-founder and CEO of Kale&Me.

For me, clarity is the be-all and end-all, which is why I now work with folders on my smartphone – with the exception of those apps that I use every day.

Since I use my smartphone professionally and privately, all the apps for everyday work are there – so asana (for Android), Slack (for Android), Google Drive (for Android), LinkedIn (for Android) – somewhat hidden in a folder. Because: If I want to work on topics for my company in between, then it should be an active decision and not a habit/skip action.

Especially with a small child I try that my phone is not my constant companion. App insider tip: Pleo (for Android), a cloud-based expense management system that automatically processes expenses, pays bills and issues smart company cards.

I also have all social media apps in one folder and have now turned off all notifications. Without the little red numbers, my screen time has been reduced enormously.

Project management – also for private matters

MasterTask” (for Android) is the project management tool used in my husband’s company – and I’ve also become a big fan! It has a very simple and clear to-do structure, so we use it extensively for our family to-dos and projects.

It is filled every second Sunday, when our regular “coffee, cake and appointments” event takes place. I also track and plan when it comes to finances: With the app “Cash Trails“ I track every issue of our lives. There is an evaluation at monthly level, which we then discuss.

inspiration

I listen to a lot of podcasts – especially Fast & Curious and Huberman Lab – and audio books. Current favorite there: the Waringham saga by Rebecca Gable. And every year from November I listen to all Harry Potter audio books, in English with Stephen Fry. At Audible (for Android) I’ve actually been a member since 2010 and the biggest fan.

Blinkist (for Android) I also love using, mostly blinks on parenting guides like The Book You Wish Your Parents Had Read by Philippa Perry. I also use Pinterest almost every day, we always have some furnishing project at home and Pinterest (for Android) is my constant creative companion.

Of course, there are also typical apps for cooking with children. I love the app from KptnCook (for Android) to get new ideas. We now have a weekly vegetable organic box and it always takes inspiration from outside to turn turnips, fennel and pointed cabbage into great dishes (because I’m actually not the greatest cook).

Notes – grossly underestimated

Even if this app has nothing special at all, for me it is my constant and probably most important companion. I’m an absolute advocate of paper and pen (I usually have a small notebook with me) – but when ideas and thoughts come to me on the go, I always have to capture them and write them down immediately. Then, of course, they are transferred to my notebook by hand.

All-round health in view

I also like to deal with the topic of health in my private life. I use the Apple Watch app to track my activities and I really enjoy closing my activity rings every day. In addition, I use as needed Calm (for Android) and 7 mins (for Android) – whenever I need time and space for rest.

I think these little reminders like “take a deep breath now” are just brilliant. I’ve also been using the cycle tracking app from femtech start-up Ava for a number of years and it’s a must-have for me.
