Google pulls plug from YouTube Go: this is going to change
Google has announced that it is pulling the plug on the YouTube Go service. The service was launched in 2016 as an alternative to YouTube itself. But this summer the service will cease to exist.
YouTube Go stops
In 2016, Google launched YouTube Go. A service that had to offer as a lightweight alternative to YouTube itself, especially for emerging markets. YouTube Go only offered the basic stuff in the beginning. For example, it was not possible at the time to post comments or upload videos or perform other special actions. The YouTube Go application was also mainly intended for devices with less powerful hardware, but according to Google, these matters have now been addressed in the regular YouTube app. Another alternative is YouTube in the browser.
Another important step is that the performance of the cheapest low-end devices has clearly improved. This ensures that many apps also work without problems on these devices. That also applies to YouTube. In August, YouTube Go will cease to exist, Google has announced. We are now curious about the future of the other Google apps released as Go versions, such as Google Maps Go.
