Hostage in the Apple Store
After about six hours, the armed robbery with hostage in the Apple Store in the center of Amsterdam was over. All hostages are unharmed, the perpetrator was overpowered and taken to hospital.
A hostage, who had been held the whole time, had managed to escape from the Apple Store and the hostage-taker had followed him. The latter was then overpowered in front of the building by the police. Dozens of people had already escaped from the building, no one was injured.
That’s how it ended
According to police information, an armed man raided the Apple Store around 5:40 p.m. and took at least one hostage. Footage and video of a man in a camouflage suit inside the store threatening another unarmed man with a gun was seen on social media. Eyewitnesses also reported hearing several gunshots to the media.
Agents were quickly on the scene. Leidseplein in the center of Amsterdam was evacuated and cordoned off, theaters and cafes on the square were closed. For hours, armored vehicles, heavily armed special forces and helicopters were deployed.
Apple Store Amsterdam closed
Due to the hostage situation, the Apple Stores in the Netherlands are temporarily closed. Apple’s website states that the Apple Store will reopen this Friday at 10 a.m. We assume that this will also apply to the other Stores.
