Google TV may get a child filter
Do you want to watch television ‘safely’ with the children without adult-only content? Google TV may be getting a restrictive mode that will allow you to filter out adult content, leaving only kid-friendly content.
Google TV
Google TV isn’t necessarily great for kids right now if you’re not using a kid’s profile, but it will be with the new restrictive mode. You can apply it to profiles to prevent children from accessing movies and series that are marked as adults only.
9to5Google came to this discovery in the new launcher update. The difference between this filter and kid mode is that it also ensures that content that isn’t deemed safe for kids doesn’t play automatically, something that sometimes happens with the movie trailers it shows up (and which are often heavily sponsored). You can then only activate the new mode by entering the PIN code.
Adult Content
It’s good that Google is coming up with new ways to filter content, because it’s made in such a way that all kinds of streaming services can be linked to Google TV. Google will then offer you suggestions based on what you watch. That in itself is very nice, but it may also expose children to content that is not suitable for them. The child profiles should already solve this, but this mode makes it just that little bit better.
The child profile is mainly to set which apps your children can use and which screen time limit applies. It is also possible to enable a bedtime within a child profile. The child profile on Google TV is not available in all regions and on all devices, or whether this will apply to this new mode is still unknown. In any case, Google has yet to make an official announcement about this.
