Still Apple CarPlay in your Tesla? That’s how you do that
Apple CarPlay or Android Auto in a Tesla is unfortunately not as common as it should be. A smart head managed to do it.
Most modern cars that roll off the production line now give you the freedom of choice to connect Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in addition to the standard infotainment system. Which is nice, because you can project the screen of your smartphone on the large display in your car. A brand that is not at all a fan of this application is Tesla.
Tesla mainly pushes their own system down your throat and does not give you the freedom to use Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A developer has now come up with a solution for this. Michal Gapinski from Poland has managed to get Apple CarPlay running in a Tesla. In a demonstration video on Twitter shows the Pole, among other things, how he uses Apple Music in this way.
The hack works on the basis of software adjustments. Gapinski has found a bypass for the WiFi in a Tesla. A second device can then be connected via the vehicle’s browser. Then the browser shows a live connection from the host. In this case and Apple iPhone.
Is there no hardware involved at all with this mod? Yes. A Raspberry Pi, running on Android, is the basis of this project. An interface runs on this minicomputer that allows to run a mirror of Apple CarPlay on the big screen in a Tesla.
The good news is that Gapinski plans to release a public version. But at the moment he is still fine-tuning everything. Ultimately, a step-by-step guide will be added to enable Apple CarPlay in your Tesla. But fair is fair. Tesla that comes with support itself would be a lot easier..
