The operator in the Czech Republic completely shuts down the 3G network, freeing up space for 5G
With the advent of 5G technology, the end of the older 3G is slowly approaching. While Slovak operators do not yet plan to switch off the 3G network, another operator in the neighboring Czech Republic, T-Mobile, has decided to take this step. He informed about it through a press release.
The operator will start shutting down the 3G network in Moravia on October 1. The operation will be completely terminated throughout the country at the end of November.
The vast majority of customers today use 2G or 4G
The 3G network may seem to be an integral part of the world of mobile services, but in reality only a very small percentage of users use it. Most Czech T-Mobile customers use a 2G network for telephony or 4G and 5G for dating. According to the operator, less than 1% of users who have been notified of the change via SMS or e-mail will therefore be terminated.
In addition, 3G runs on the 2,100 MHz frequency and its release is very important for the further development of the latest 5G technology.
3G has started using mobile internet
Czech T-Mobile launched a 3G network in 2009, the first mobile network capable of transmitting data at high speeds (14.4 Mb / s for download and 5.7 Mb / s for upload). This progress ushered in the era of mobile Internet services, but was later replaced by more modern 4G and, in recent years, high-speed 5G.
The 3G network in Slovakia is not over yet
Slovak operators also perceive a decrease in the use of the 3G network, but they do not plan to switch it off in the near future. However, Orange released part of the frequency band, which was previously occupied by 3G technology, for the 4G network.
