Transferring WhatsApp between iPhone and Android just got easier

It will soon be possible to transfer your WhatsApp chats from iPhone to Android, making switching easier. It is not yet known when the feature will be available to everyone.

Transfer Whatsapp Data

The new feature was announced during Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event.

With the function it will soon be possible to take messages, photos and audio messages with you to your new device. Unfortunately, this is currently only possible from iPhone to Android, and not the other way around.

The feature is initially only available on a Samsung Galaxy device with Android 10 or newer. Easily transferring your WhatsApp data to another platform has long been a thorn in the side of many users.

Transferring with a cable

It is striking that you have to connect the iPhone and the Android device with a lightning to usb-c cable. In addition, you need to use the Samsung Smart Switch app to transfer the data.

WhatsApp has indicated that other Samsung devices will also receive the feature. When this will happen is not clear.

And when you can transfer your WhatsApp chat history from Android to iPhone in this way? That is also one big question mark.

Transferring chat history: it can be easier

With Telegram (an alternative to WhatsApp) it has long been possible to take your messages and photos with you to your new phone. You can transfer your data to any platform without any problems.

This is because Telegram uses their own cloud storage. It is even possible to export your messages to Telegram from WhatsApp. Whatsapp does not have this feature as they use Google Drive as storage.

On iOS, WhatsApp uses iCloud. iCloud makes it easy to take your data with you to a new iPhone. However, if you want to switch to Android and take your data with you, it was always a lot more difficult. Hopefully that will change (a bit).
