Elon Musk criticizes App Store commission and supports Epic Games
Just after denying that Tim Cook had insulted him, Elon Musk criticizes the App Store and the commission Apple takes for each purchase. According to the boss of Tesla, it is a tax given that it applies every time.
“Apple’s App Store fees are a de facto worldwide Internet tax. Epic is right ”, says Elon Musk in a tweet. Here he is referring to Epic Games and its fight with Apple in the courts in the United States. The two groups clashed for three weeks.
As a reminder, Apple takes a 30% commission on each application purchase. This also applies to in-app purchases. The commission drops to 15% if developers generate less than $ 1 million in revenue during the year.
This is the second time in a week that Elon Musk has tackled Apple. The premiere took place a few days ago when the head of Tesla spoke about the use of cobalt and the fact that Tesla is being criticized on this point. He said that Apple “Uses, I believe, almost 100% cobalt in its batteries, cell phones and laptops”. As well, “On a weighted average basis, we use maybe 2% cobalt, compared to 100% for Apple”. The other point has been the fact that Apple controls everything in its “closed garden” and that Tesla does not intend to do the same to prevent its competitors from using its network of chargers.
