At present, 26 smartphone models from 7 manufacturers have access to the state-of-the-art pink operator network. The latest addition is a novelty on the Slovak market, Oppo Reno 5 5G.

Telekom offers 5G coverage in 14 villages around Bratislava
30.6.2021
Through a press release, Telekom informed us about the further expansion of coverage with the most modern 5G network. Again, these are areas, villages around the capital. After the first three municipalities, another 11 joined them, namely:
- Čakany, Hviezdoslavov, Ivanka pri Dunaji, Kostolná pri Dunaji, Kráľová pri Senci, Kvetoslavov, Mierovo, Most pri Bratislave, Štvrtok na Ostrove and Vlky. The 5G network is also available in Čierna voda, part of the village of Chorvátsky Grob.
Another model was added to the 24 supported smartphones, namely the Redmi Note 10 5G.

Telekom has expanded its 5G network beyond Bratislava
22.6.2021
Through a press release, Telekom informed us about the further expansion of its 5G network. After covering 17 Bratislava localities, the first 3 municipalities were added: Veľký Biel, Tomášov and Dunajská Lužná.
The operator decided to cover these areas due to the fact that they reach high values in the occupancy of 4G networks. However, it is not just these 3 municipalities, there are more such municipalities around the capital. We expect that the next enlargement will focus on this area.
In the last 6 months, the operator covered 17 locations in Bratislava: Jarovce, Rusovce, Petržalka, Staré Mesto, Nové Mesto, Kramáre, Ružinov, Trnávka, Vajnory, Rača, Vrakuňa, Podunajské Biskupice, Karlová Ves, Dúbravka, Lamač, Devín and Devínska Nová Ves (including the Volkswagen site).
Currently, 24 devices can connect to the 5G network from Telekom, mostly from Samsung, Xiaomi and Apple.
Telekom has launched a 5G network: Approximately half of Bratislava is covered, 12 smartphones are supported
10.12.2020
Telekom today officially announced the launch of its own commercial 5G network. At the moment, it approaches this similarly to the competing O2, so the network covers Bratislava, just to a much greater extent and outright.
Telecom covers half of Bratislava
Telekom’s 5G network is available for practically half of the entire territory of the capital – 8 city districts:
- Devinska Nova Ves
- New city
- Parsley
- Podunajské Biskupice
- Ružinov
- Trnávka
- Vajnory
- Vrakuňa
This means that to date it is the Slovak 5G network with the largest coverage.
The operator states that it will continue to expand the network. It will use the same strategy as when building and expanding 5G networks. It will start in selected regional cities and gradually expand coverage to smaller towns and villages.
The new network in Bratislava uses the 2.1 GHz frequency and is the so-called 5G in NSA mode. In very simple terms, it is a combination of existing technologies for more modern use. The frequency band used traditionally serves 3G networks and at the same time key elements of 4G networks are used, which have been expanded by 5G options.
300 to 600 Mbps for data download
Theoretical transfer rates can reach 1150 Mbps for data downloads and 131 Mbps for uploads. In practice, you will not approach these values. Telekom states that during testing, real transmission speeds range from 300 to 600 Mbps for data download and 60 to 80 Mbps for upload.
Conditions for connection
Customers can use the new network provided they meet three very basic and logical conditions:
- They must be within network coverage
- They must have a supported 5G smartphone
- They need the correct SIM card – all current Telekom 4G SIM cards support the new network. No exchange is required.
Theoretically, customers connected to 4G will also benefit from the launch of the 5G network. This is based on the assumption that some customers will, so to speak, move to a new network, which will improve the average situation in 4G.
5G Telekom: 12 devices from 5 manufacturers
Currently, 12 smartphone models from 5 manufacturers can be connected to the 5G network of the Telekom operator. We are actively working on testing other devices and support will be gradually expanded. Practically, it started with the most popular models with a 5G modem.
- iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max
- Samsung S20 Ultra 5G, Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G
- Huawei P40 Pro, Huawei Mate 40 Pro
- Xiaomi Mi 10T Lite, Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro
- OnePlus 8T
Telekom will build the first 5G campus network in Žilina for the technology company CEIT. She will work on the development of automation solutions to improve business logistics – the needs for Industry 4.0. The so-called campus 5G network is a designation for a mobile network that is intended and accessible only to a specific company.
What is the situation with the competition?
Telekom, like another Slovak operator, is taking steps to actually launch a new generation mobile network. At the beginning of November, O2 launched a publicly available 5G test network in selected locations in Bratislava.
At almost the same time, Orange announced that it would launch its 5G in Slovakia in 2021. And not just with symbolic coverage. He keeps the details to himself for now.
The 4ka operator in Slovakia launched the 5G network first, but at the same time it is only a very limited test operation in a small part of Banská Bystrica. Among other things, the operator uses this network for its internal testing. However, all customers within range can join.
