WhatsApp is going to help you save mobile data!

Send photos and videos. It eats up mobile data, WhatsApp will help you save on this.

We’re texting something these days. Not only do we send messages, but we also send massive amounts of photos and videos. Very nice of course, but it does cost you a lot of mobile data. The messaging service also knows this and will help you with that. A new function has appeared in a beta version of the app.

WhatsApp feature helps you with mobile data

WhatsApp will soon let you choose the upload quality via a new menu. The aim is to save on your mobile data. The feature is not quite ready yet and will first come in a beta version. This will be released soon and will then be tested.

The messaging service will then give you the choice in which upload quality you would like to send videos to your friends. When sending, a menu will appear, where you can choose different options. The options are ‘best quality’, ‘data saving mode’ or ‘automatic mode’. With the latter variant, WhatsApp will determine for itself which compression is best for the video you would like to send. So you hand it over and think that the messaging service knows best.

Few further details

The information came first from WABetaInfo. This is the well-known analyst and rumor spreader. They were able to find the information, but also know remarkably little. It is not yet known whether the selection menu appears every time you are going to send a video. It can also be a fixed menu in the settings. And the big question is of course: how much data can you save with it? And how much difference is there between the variants? That is important to know, because then you know whether it is worth it. What will also affect is whether you are on WiFi or using mobile data.
