T-Mobile saw explosive peak during Olympic Games

Telecom provider T-Mobile reports that it has noticed several peaks during the 2022 Winter Olympics in recent weeks. It concerns peaks in mobile data consumption.

Peak during Winter Games

The Netherlands has had a successful edition of the Olympic Games. The Winter Games were held in Beijing, but of course there was also a lot of follow-up from the Netherlands. T-Mobile now shares figures about peaks in mobile data consumption around Dutch races during the Games.

The largest peak was measured during 1500 meters skating, with Kjeld Nuis taking the gold medal. Data usage at that time increased by 32 percent, compared to the same time on a normal day. During other matches with Team NL, data usage increased by about 15 percent.

According to T-Mobile, large-scale sporting events are increasingly viewed via the mobile network, on tablets or smartphones. Patrick Roest’s 10-kilometer skating resulted in a peak of 16 percent; the 3000 meters with Irene Schouten achieved a peak of 17 percent.
