This is how Volvo wants to eliminate the biggest problem
Electric cars are bought mainly because they are more environmentally friendly. CO₂ is not emitted while driving. When it comes to the production of e-cars and batteries, things look very different. Now Volvo has announced that it will also focus on climate neutrality in production.
Volvo: E-car production becomes climate neutral
When in operation, electric cars do not emit any gases that are harmful to the climate. This is considered to be one of the main reasons why more and more customers are opting for an electric car over a combustion engine. In the manufacture of electric cars, however, climate-neutral production is not the focus. The Swedish car manufacturer Volvo wants to work hard with a climate-neutral battery factory.
To reduce the CO₂ footprint of electric cars, Volvo has teamed up with the battery manufacturer Northvolt. More sustainable batteries for electric cars are to be developed through a joint venture. According to one, they will be used in the next generation of Volvo’s electric cars Message. The Volvo XC60 is named by name.
Volvo has a particular eye on the European market. Starting in 2024, 15 gigawatt hours of battery cells are to be drawn from an existing plant every year. In addition, the construction of a European gigafactory is planned, which will deliver a capacity of up to 50 gigawatt hours from 2026. The factory will run entirely on renewable energies. They want to employ around 3,000 new employees. The location has not yet been determined.
There are still some myths that we have in the Video like to clarify:
