Although Kerbal Space Program 2 seems like a fantastic evolution of the original idea, the development of the game is accompanied by a number of inconveniences. One of them could only be in the eyes of the fans that the author of the first part, Felipe Falangh, learned about the sequel from the announcement trailer. Sure, at that time he was no longer in the Squad studio and had nothing to do with Star Theory Games, which was supposed to work on the sequel, but from his words there was a surprise mixed with a slight disappointment that he was no longer in control. The second, more serious issue, was the alleged disagreement between the label Private Division and the aforementioned Star Theory Games, which resulted in the bankruptcy of the studio and the transfer of important people to the new Intercept Games team set up by Take-Two. Since then, however, the development is probably proceeding satisfactorily, and after delays, we could look forward to the game next year. The calming of the recently turbulent waters is confirmed by a new video in which the developers deal with the innovations and improvements that the game will experience in comparison with the first part.
The topic of the new developer diary is the importance and significance of games similar to the Kerbal Space Program, which give ordinary people the opportunity to try out the basics of scientific work. In this case, of course, the developers are talking about rocket science, associated, of course, with many other areas, such as natural sciences, engineering, custom design capabilities, or interplanetary flight planning. In its distinctive form, these circuits have, of course, already been touched by the original game, but the second part is supposed to bring a much friendlier environment and a lot of new possibilities. Individual developers recall how KSP enchanted them in its time, but also mention that building a rocket was no honey, and according to current opinions, the game sometimes failed due to the user interface. The team from Intercept Games therefore decided to rework the construction of the rocket in particular, to offer clearer tools, such as fixed views of the construction from different angles, and to reorganize the offer of individual parts, resp. their editing options. Everything is demonstrated on the installation of ailerons, from which it is possible to create long wings, change their geometry, the area of the moving parts and many other details by simply pulling them out, which players found difficult in the original game, or explicitly by trial and error.
There is nothing in the Kerbal Space Program that should prevent anyone from enjoying it if they like simulators, space, or space travel.
However, this does not mean that you would not use such a procedure in the second part – the developers confirm that the whole experience of Kerbal Space Program 2 is about discovering what works, what doesn’t and especially why. For this purpose, however, according to executive producer Michael Cook, it is necessary that the game can be controlled by people who may not have so much experience with games or are in the field complete novices. “There’s nothing in the Kerbal Space Program that should keep anyone from enjoying it if they like simulators, space, space travel, or the ability to build great things,” says Cook, giving at least a brief look at specific elements in the video. “It’s important for us to capture accessibility correctly so that instead of feeling like someone’s blocking you, you can try the game primarily for the reason that led you to it,” adds the producer. One such thing is supposed to be elaborate tutorials, but they are free of tables, numbers and terms from which unpolished people can get their heads around it.
Everything should be taken care of by funny but informative videos that you can skip completely if there is no Kerbal Space Program for you. rocket science. However, the developers recommend that one resort to them when one gets lost in the laws of physics and rocket construction and needs to find out how to transport something from earth to space as efficiently as possible. It must also be admitted that cartoon sketches look quite funny and as a gateway to an otherwise very complex and complicated world, they could also serve younger players. After all, the developers test them themselves on one of the daughters of a team member, who are only four years old, and she sends valuable feedback back to the studio as she serial likes it and whether she understood it. However, it is certain that KSP 2 will offer more than simple entertainment for preschool children, which is confirmed by developers and real astrophysicists. The second part of this quirky game should give players a little more opportunities to take off from the ground more comfortably and travel beyond Kerbin and its two moons.
