A The Legend of Zelda movie is reportedly in the works with Illumination at the helm

After the film Super Mario Bros.place to The Legend of Zelda. Illumination would still be in charge, with Nintendo and Universal reportedly finalizing the deal.

The fact that Nintendo wants to come up with a new movie after Super Mario Bros. is not a surprise, knowing that the latter was a very big success by exceeding 1.3 billion dollars in box office receipts. It only remained to know what would be the next license on the big screen. So that would be Zelda and Link.

According to film critic Jeff Sneider, Universal and Illumination are about to conclude a “big deal” with Nintendo for an animated film The Legend of Zelda. He shared this information in an episode of the Hot Mic Podcast. Here is what he said :

I don’t think what I’m about to say comes as a big surprise. I was told that Universal was in the process of striking a “big deal” with Nintendo Corporation for The Legend of Zelda. Zelda seems to be the next big franchise from Illumination and Nintendo, which is what we’ve all been waiting for. But I was told it was happening and was going to cost Universal a pretty penny due to the success of Super Mario, with Nintendo knowing its worth at this point. But yes, I was told that would now become a reality.

The problem for some fans is the choice of the Illumination studio for a Zelda movie. They would have preferred DreamWorks or Ghibli. They fear that the film is a little too childish, in the same style as Mario.
