Samsung Free becomes Samsung News, this will change even more
Samsung Free is going to turn into Samsung News. The separate page will also have a different layout with more emphasis on news articles. It is becoming more and more like Google Discover.

If you swipe all the way to the right on your main screen, you will come across Google Discover on Android smartphones. This is a separate page where you can find news that you are interested in. It is one page on which news items from multiple sources appear. There are also several widgets in Discover.
As a counterpart, Samsung has made its own version called Samsung Free. This menu, like Google Discover, can be found to the left of your home screen. In addition to news, you will also find games, podcasts and other (free) content that can be played or viewed with Samsung apps. Free is now integrated on every smartphone from Samsung. Users do get a choice. If your Samsung smartphone runs on One UI 3.1 or higher, you can also choose to turn off Free and use Discover. With Blinkfeed in 2013, HTC was the first to make a special news page.

Free becomes News
Sammobile now comes with the news that Samsung will change the name Free to ‘News’. According to the website, not only will the name change, the layout will also be slightly different. For example, as with Google Discover, the focus would be more on news articles. It should then be easier for users to find news articles they are interested in in Samsung News.
The ‘Play’ and ‘Watch’ tabs will also disappear. The ability to play games and watch TV for free via the Samsung TV Plus and Game Launcher apps will remain.
Availability
SamsungFree is becoming Samsung News once the Free app is updated to version 6.0.1. This feature will be rolling out from April 18.
