WhatsApp comes with major Status update: this is new

WhatsApp has announced that a number of functions and options will be added to WhatsApp Status. The functionality that was released in 2017 now lets you choose who you want to share the Status with, and there is also the addition of the audio status.

WhatsApp is rolling out a (server-side) update that further expands the functionality of WhatsApp Status. From now on it is possible to make a choice with whom you want to share your WhatsApp Status. You can update your privacy setting per status. For example, one time you can choose to share your Status with every contact, and the other time only share it with a few contacts, or exclude contacts.

Voice Status is another new feature in WhatsApp. The feature makes it possible to share a Status update that includes audio. The feature allows you to share an audio message of up to 30 seconds over the network. This can then be listened to by your friends. From now on you can also respond more quickly to a status, a much-requested feature according to WhatsApp. You no longer only have to respond via text, you can also respond quickly with one of the eight emojis.

From now on, a green ring will be shown around the profile picture in the chat overview if it has shared a status update. This can be seen in the chat list, contact details and in the list of group participants. When you share a link in a Status, you will see a preview from now on. This way you get a preview of what you will see.

The new features for WhatsApp Status are now being rolled out to users in phases. This will happen in the coming weeks, the message service says.
