Developers from the Bloober Team studio announced via the Polish financial portal Money.pl that less than a week after the launch of their latest game The Medium, pre-order and sales revenues have offset all costs. “According to the publisher’s estimates, sales of The Medium have reached a level that covers both production and marketing costs,” said the developer’s statement, which is all the more surprising because it includes the aforementioned marketing part. It is the funds spent on advertising that often balance the budget for the development itself, which, according to estimates by Bloober CEO Piotr Babien, was to be around PLN 30 million, resp. EUR 7 million.
Despite the fact that the budget and revenues currently estimated at 10-14 million euros are not dizzying compared to the largest production, it is a great success for Bloober. We must especially consider the fact that the game, in addition to the PC, has only arrived on the Xbox Series, not the Xbox One, and as you can probably imagine, the developers cannot rely on an overly large base of players here yet. However, the question is what role the placement of The Medium in the Game Pass offer played in the described sales and financial success. The details of the agreement with Microsoft are not (and probably will not be) known and the statement of the developers for Money.pl is unclear in this regard.
