Positive reactions to short Disney film with plus-size ballerina
You may have seen it: the short Disney film ‘Reflect’ in which a plus-size ballerina plays the leading role. Viewers are thrilled with the representation of different body types.
The film has received a lot of positive reactions.
More confidence
In the Disney Circuit short film, which has been online since September, ballerina Bianca battles her reflection and overcomes her insecurities and fears. When the ballet teacher says that all dancers are slim, Bianca feels uneasy and insecure. Suddenly she stands alone in front of a broken mirror and sees hundreds of reflections of herself, as a metaphor for her broken self-image. Bianca notices that she can control the broken glass with her dance moves and therefore gains more and more self-confidence.

Positive reactions
With the six-minute film, director Hillary Bradfield, also known from Frozen 2 and Encanto, hopes that people will think more positively about themselves and how they look after watching. It is the first time that Disney has chosen a plus-size character in a film. And many people are happy about that. For example, someone wrote on Twitter: ‘I wish I had seen this as a little girl! So glad things are changing’. Another says, ‘Thank you, Disney. This is a very important milestone for plus-size girls.’
