The market share of the iPhone is approaching 20% in the third quarter
In a context of economic disaster, Apple continues to sell its iPhone like buns. Better still, the market share of the iPhone made a real jump during the third quarter if we are to believe Canalys, from 15 to 18% in one year. Apple is no longer so far from Samsung’s 22% (which it has already exceeded on a few Q4s of the rest…). Given the difficulties of the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus, we can bet without risk that it was mainly the sales of iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max that boosted this excellent percentage (and in the month of September alone!).
This market share gain was obtained in a plummeting mobile market: for the third consecutive quarter, the smartphone market took a nosedive, this time by 9% in Q3. Canalys specifies that this is the worst Q3 since 2014 for the mobile market and that Apple is the only major manufacturer to increase its sales in volume over the period (Samsung gains a good percentage point, but its sales fall in volume ).
Will iPhone sales hold up over time? It is legitimate to ask the question knowing that we have just learned that Apple would have stopped the production of components for the iPhone 14 Plus in the face of weaker demand than expected.
