Netflix with advertising official: the price and restrictions

Netflix has now officially announced its formula with advertising in 14 countries, although the Netherlands and Belgium have to wait a little longer before the cheaper subscription is available. We do get to see the broader picture.

With a cheaper subscription that shows ads, Netflix wants to appeal to a wider audience and grow again. On its blog, it announced that the advertising subscription will be available November 3 in 14 countries, including the United States, France and Germany. The streaming service announces this in a blog post.

Let’s first look at how much you save with the new formula. For the time being, we have to make do with the German and French prices, which already give us more insight into the costs. Netflix now splits its Basic subscription into a formula with and one without advertising. If we follow the line of Germany and France, ‘Basic with advertising’ costs respectively 4.99 euros and 5.99 euros per month in the Netherlands and Belgium.

Ads are shown before a movie or series starts and they take 15 to 30 seconds to complete. There may also be a second interruption in the middle. Netflix has previously announced that it is partnering with Microsoft on the advertising, which involves targeted advertising, which is tailored to the user’s country and the genre of content being viewed. For the time being, there will be no advertising for children’s programs, but Netflix did open the door for it in the future.

Finally, Basic with advertising comes with almost the same features as the regular Basic subscription. That means you stream in a 720p resolution, and you can watch content on one screen at a time. it is not possible to download movies and series, to watch them offline.
