Apple apparently wants to advertise on Apple TV Plus

Apple is reportedly planning to run ads on its Apple TV Plus streaming service. Like Netflix and Disney Plus, the US group is apparently planning to introduce an advertising-financed subscription. The first negotiations are said to have already taken place.

Netflix and Disney Plus announced the launch of an ad-supported subscription earlier this year. Now Apple apparently wants to follow suit with its Apple TV Plus streaming service. This is from a report by the US magazine Digiday out.

Accordingly, the US group has already held initial talks with potential advertising partners. More are to follow later this year. Todd Teresi, Apple’s vice president of advertising platforms, is also said to have felt at several advertising agencies. According to insiders, he would have explicitly addressed the topic of advertising on Apple TV Plus.

Apple TV Plus: Is Apple building its own advertising platform?

So far, only a few details about Apple’s plans are known. However, according to a source, the company is taking an “unusual approach”. Accordingly, the company would have thought about an API-based platform that should work similar to the search on Google or Microsoft.

In the meantime, however, the company has apparently said goodbye to these plans. Instead, Apple plans out loud Digiday the introduction of a Demand Side Platform (DSP). There, advertising partners should in turn be able to book advertising time directly, which the system then assigns to the appropriate content.

When will Apple start advertising?

Apple has already shown ads when broadcasting major league baseball games on its Apple TV Plus streaming service. However, it was the advertising cooperation of the league itself. It is now relatively certain that Apple will also switch advertising between its series and films in the future.

Rather, the question is when. One of the insiders mentioned the period of early 2023. So far, however, it is unclear where and how much advertising Apple wants to place in its streaming service in the future. Whether and how expensive the advertising-financed subscription should be is reportedly not yet certain.
