OnePlus announces clone of Apple Watch
OnePlus announced the Nord Watch this week, and it looks very familiar to us: it is an almost exact clone of the Apple Watch. We list the biggest similarities.
Read on after the ad.
OnePlus Nord Watch
Before we even look at the design of the OnePlus Nord Watch, we already see similarities with the Apple Watch on paper. The watch has a 1.78-inch screen with a resolution of 368 x 448 pixels. The Apple Watch SE (44mm) has a 1.78-inch screen with a resolution of 368 x 448 pixels. Interesting.
The Nord Watch also has a heart rate sensor, blood oxygen meter, sleep tracking support, and is resistant to dust and water. Just like the Apple Watch SE, but given these are typical smartwatch specifications, we overlook that part.
Design: Apple Watch clone
Where the similarities do get a bit too extreme is in the field of design. The Apple Watch’s square rounded design has been copied almost one-to-one, complete with a curved screen, signature scroll wheel and the dark glossy finish of the steel Apple Watch – but zinc.
And that’s just the outside. If we take a look at the software, the similarities are perhaps even greater. The Infograaf watch face we’ve known since the Apple Watch Series 4? It is also on the OnePlus Nord Watch. The design of the main menu? Also copied. The notification center? You guessed it. OnePlus claims to have designed the operating system for this watch itself, but it is clear that Apple has unknowingly lent a nice hand.
OnePlus Nord Watch: only in India?
For the time being, the OnePlus Nord Watch is only sold in India, for a very attractive price of USD 85. Something tells us that the introduction of the Nord Watch in the western market may cause some protest from Apple, but that’s a case of wait and see.
