New The Lord of the Rings on Amazon Prime

Friday September 2 is the day, the new The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power on Amazon Prime Video.

It is the most expensive series ever and tech company Amazon is sticking its neck out for it. Available on the Amazon Prime streaming service from Friday, September 2.

Amazon dared to launch the successful film series of The Lord of the Rings to provide a TV series. The epic fantasy series is based on the work of author JRR Tolkien. And the streaming service is doing well.

Most expensive series ever

No less than 22 major roles can be played in the series (excluding the supporting roles) and for the eight-part first season a sloppy 465 million dollars was thrown to pieces. Five seasons of the series are planned and if they are all made, the $1 billion mark will be passed. The most expensive series ever.

Staggering amounts not confirmed by Amazon, but revealed by New Zealand government documents. So a lot is at stake. A success is not enough, a resounding success is minimally necessary.

The Rings of Power must be a hit of the caliber Game of Thrones become. In order to achieve this, in 2017 the rights of some 250 million euros were acquired The Lord of the Rings. A higher amount than competitor Netflix was willing to pay, because this amount puts it next to what must now be the holy grail.

Where goes The Rings of Power about?

Now that we know that the series is incredibly expensive, we also want to know what the story is about. The Rings of Power begins with peace on Middle-earth. But of course it can’t stay that way, because then we wouldn’t have an epic story of course.

The elf Galadriel senses from his tea water that the servant of the defeated villain Morgoth is secretly gaining strength and power. That doesn’t bode well. We fly all over Middle-earth through fairy towns, dwarf mines and come into contact with Orcs, Hobbits and humans. All the ingredients for a fine Tolkien story are there.

Tolkien fans

The challenge, of course, is to meet the sky-high expectations. In any case, the images we can see now promise a spectacle for the eye. But Tolkien fans are critical, so curious how the series will be received.

The first two episodes of . will be released on Friday 2 September The Rings of Power on Amazon Prime Video. There will be an episode every week after that. Until then, we’ll have to make do with the trailer:
