WhatsApp with new privacy options
New privacy options are coming for WhatsApp. This news was announced by Mark Zuckerberg. It concerns various improvements that the messaging service has in store. Some of these improvements have surfaced in screenshots or in messages before. We list the four new features that have been announced.
Silently leaving a group
Now when you leave a group on WhatsApp, everyone in that group will see that you have left that group. That’s going to change. You will soon be able to leave a group chat where only the admins will see that you have left the group. They, as well as other members, can see in some sort of log which members have left the group in the last 60 days. This function is visible with a group, with group info, and then with ‘View previous participants’.
Online status
It will be possible to hide your online status after the August update of WhatsApp. Now you may be thinking, that was already possible, right? But this is about a different online status. It is possible to hide your last seen, but if you are online and therefore have WhatsApp open, others will still see that you are online at that moment. That’s going to change. A new privacy setting makes it possible to hide this from others as well. If you hide it from others, you will no longer see this online status of others.
Block screenshots
Another option that WhatsApp will add is the option to prohibit screenshots from being taken with a photo that you send to someone once. This is about disappearing media. It’s strange that WhatsApp hadn’t added this feature before.
Delete messages longer
Finally get you longer have the option to remove a message from a chat. From now on, after the August update of WhatsApp, you will have more than two days to delete your message. You can also choose to delete it for someone else. However, with such a period of time, it is quite possible that the other person has already read the message.
The rollout of the new update may take a while. Soon everyone should have access to the new functionality.
