75% of parents fear price hike

We think the childcare allowance system is too uncertain and too complicated. The cabinet itself agrees, by the way, because in 2025 the system as we know it will be overhauled. Great news you would think, but there are also concerns among parents.

This is according to a survey conducted by WE Magazine in collaboration with the organization Parents & Education.

Childcare Allowance

The childcare allowance will be abolished from January 2025. The current system is complex and many parents can no longer afford it. The new financing system will come into effect from January 2025 and should ensure that childcare becomes affordable for all parents and that the quality of childcare improves.

New system

What does that mean concretely? Well, there will be a new system in which the contribution will be independent of income. The government pays 96% up to the maximum hourly rate directly to the childcare organization. Parents then pay 4% plus the price above the maximum hourly rate.

To assure

Sounds good, but there are still concerns among parents. For example, 78% of parents expect that the hourly rate will also increase. 76% of parents therefore want a price cap. Especially parents with a small wallet are afraid that the new system will make childcare unaffordable. The vast majority (75%) also believe that childcare should be a basic provision, just like education. The parents do emphasize that they always want to keep the freedom of choice. Reception should not become an obligation.
