7 activities with children for rainy summer days

Between all the bright days there is sometimes a rainy summer day. No idea what to do with your child on such a day? A few tips.

1. To the museum

Do you think a museum is boring? Think again! In addition, there are a lot of fun museums for children in the Netherlands. Think of the Railway Museum (Utrecht) or Nemo (Amsterdam) also worth a visit for the smallest children. Are the children a little older? Then the Dutch Tile Museum (Otterlo), the Tax and Customs Museum (Rotterdam) or the Strip Museum (Groningen) are worth a visit!

2. Indoor climbing gym

Are your children older and bigger? Then go to an indoor climbing hall. Here you as a parent have to help and your child is attached to you while you are standing on the floor. Such a climbing gym is not only fun, but also good for your child’s self-confidence.

3. To the cinema

A trip to the cinema is always a good idea. On tropical hot days, but also on rainy summer days. You’re nice and dry and you’re just as sweet with watching the film. After the success of It’s Miss Rose’s BirthdayJuf Roos can be seen this summer in a brand new cinema film. Miss Rose: A Journey To The Rainbow. It will be in cinemas from July 19.

4. The Discovery Corner

You can visit De Discoverhoek in several places in our country. Very nice to do on a rainy summer day and suitable for children from the age of 6. At De Discoverhoek they can do all kinds of experiments, make boats, make their own chips and much more. Even for older children, from the age of 10, there are more difficult things to do.

5. To the library

If you are a member of the library, such a day when it continues to rain is the time to get new books. But did you know that you can also visit the library if you are not a member? Most libraries have reading corners where you can sit with a comic or read-aloud book.

6. Visit caves

It may be a bit of a drive, but in the caves in South Limburg you will certainly be dry! MergelRijk (Valkenburg), for example, is a nice cave to visit with your child(ren). They can do a treasure hunt and make something out of marl themselves. And when you are in Limburg, eating a piece of pie is of course part of it.

7. Have a party at home

Don’t feel like going out? You can also do a lot of fun things with your children at home. Dive into the kitchen and bake a cake or cookies. Or build a large hut in the living room under the dining table or near the sofa. You can also make your own quiz for the whole family. You may also invite friends, nephews or nieces. With Kahoot you can easily create a digital quiz. Don’t feel like making something yourself? Then open your (game) closet again and choose a game that lasts a long time or start puzzling.

Are you done with the rain and can’t stand it inside anymore? Then put on a raincoat and boots and get some fresh air. Let your children stomp through the puddles (and then put them in a warm bath at home). That will certainly freshen you up!
