6 things you need to know
Motorola has announced its latest flagship, the Motorola Edge 40 Pro. This powerful phone comes with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and a number of other highly requested features. These are the main six features of the Motorola Edge 40 Pro.
This is the Motorola Edge 40 Pro
The Motorola Edge 40 Pro succeeds the Motorola Edge 30 Pro with some interesting features that were missing from the Edge 30 Pro. We go through all the specs with you.
1. Screen has higher refresh rate
First of all, the Edge 40 Pro has a 6.7 inch fullHD + pOLED screen, just like its predecessor. However, the refresh rate has been increased from 144 Hz to 165 Hz for extra smooth images. The device has a so-called sand blasted aluminum frame and rounded screen edges for a premium look & feel. The Edge 30 Pro has a flat screen and a plastic frame.
2. Finally an IP68 certification
The back is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus. This allows the phone to survive a fall from a height of 2 meters. There is now also an IP68 certificate. This means that you can keep the phone underwater up to 1.5 meters for a maximum of half an hour. The Motorola Edge 30 Pro has an IP rating of IP52 and is therefore dust and (partially) splash proof.
3. Depth camera makes way for telephoto camera
The main sensors of the Motorola Edge 40 Pro are the 50 MP main camera with optical image stabilization and the 50 MP ultra-wide-angle camera with which you take images at an angle of 114 degrees. That camera can also take macro photos. The separate depth camera for portrait photos is no longer there. There is now a 12 MP telephoto camera for that. This camera can zoom in up to 2x optical and also take portrait photos and portrait videos. The 60 MP selfie camera has remained the same.
Furthermore, Night Vision now works with both photos and videos and there is a function called ‘Horizon Lock Stabilization’. In extreme sports such as mountain biking or skiing, this function ensures that your video remains stabilized and focused on the horizon, even if you rotate the smartphone 360 ° during action scenes.
4. From 68W to 125W fast charging
The phone runs on the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset with 12 GB RAM and 256 GB storage. The battery is slightly smaller than that of the predecessor, 4600 mAh instead of 4800 mAh. Motorola has increased the fast charging from 68W to 125W in return. This allows the phone to last another day in 6 minutes and the Edge 40 Pro is fully charged in 23 minutes. In addition, the phone supports 15W wireless charging and 5W reverse charging.
5. One year of additional updates
The Edge 30 Pro was released with Android 12 and gets two years of Android updates from Motorola and three years of security updates. The Motorola Edge 40 Pro runs on Android 13 and gets three years of Android upgrades and four years of (bimonthly) security updates.
6. Higher MSRP
The Motorola Edge 30 Pro came to the shops for 799.99 euros. The Motorola Edge 40 Pro is available in the colors Interstellar Black and Lunar Blue for a suggested retail price of 899 euros. So you pay 100 euros more.
