The series is all about a group that visits various brothels and then evaluates them. be there completely absurd sexual practices and fetishes were shownwhich also take place across the borders of a species – hence the name of the anime.

Despite a few explicit ecchi scenes, the series itself is rather harmless, since the whole tonality is funny and sold with a wink. Nevertheless, the anime became popular shortly after its release banned in several countrieswhich caused an international outcry among fans.

They then mobilized and put the anime on MyAnimeList (IMDb for anime) Voted number 1 in the world rankings. That put Interspecies Reviewers above such masterpieces as Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and Attack on Titan for a while.

There were brutal anime back in the 80s and 90s, but Elfen Lied, released in 2004, still appealed to many fans the first contact with a tough FSK-18 anime.

Elfen Lied is about cruel experiments on childrenwho have special abilities. This fact alone should have been reason enough for the FSK to release the anime only for adults. Or it was the massacre of a group of preschool children – a scene that inevitably sticks in your memory.

In order to understand the Elfen Lied scandal, you also have to consider the time. YouTube was still in its infancy and suddenly popped up an extremely gory anime on the platform.
