45W charging is hardly faster

Samsung has finally provided the Galaxy S22+ and the Galaxy S22 Ultra with faster charging. But how much does this really matter in practice?

Samsung Galaxy S22: 45W charging

Where various (Chinese) brands already offer plenty of high charging speeds, Samsung has also taken the plunge with the Galaxy S22. The S22 can still be charged with a maximum of 25W, but with the S22+ and the Galaxy S22 Ultra this is 45W. This is still not earth-shattering when you know that brands already offer 65W, 80W or 100W, but it is a step forward.

The colleagues from GSM Arena have looked; does it really make a difference if you charge with 25W or 45W? With the Galaxy S22+, the phone is 62 percent charged after thirty minutes with the 25W Samsung charger. With the 45W charger this comes to 64 percent, just 2 percent more with 20W more. It is striking that with the Galaxy S22 Ultra the percentage after thirty minutes is 61 percent; 60 percent with the 45W charger. This may have to do with the charging speed fluctuating below a certain percentage.

Fully charging the Samsung Galaxy S22+ comes out at 1:01 hours with the 45W charger. Charging the same device with the 25W charger only takes one minute longer; 1:02 am. With the Galaxy S22 Ultra, the differences are also small; 59 minutes (45W) versus 1:04 hours (25W). It is therefore certainly not worthwhile to purchase the 45W charger from Samsung for 50 euros.

Other research

Sammobile’s colleagues also performed a similar test. They have worked with a previous model 45W charger from Samsung, so not the latest model. However, it is expected that the differences will not be very large.

The Galaxy S22+ comes to 70 percent after 30 minutes with the 45W charger. This is 65 percent with the 25W charger. Full charging would be one minute faster with the 45W charger than with the 25W charger. The difference with the Galaxy S22 Ultra in full charging is only 4 minutes. The 45W charger takes 63 minutes for this, while the charger with less watts takes 67 minutes. Charging the S22 Ultra yields a percentage of 67% (45W) and 59% (25W) after half an hour.
