4 coolest gadgets
Not everyone is already familiar with the principle of crowdfunding, and that is normal. It’s still a relatively new concept, but one that can help creative people make a difference. You first support a great idea for a product, and then you can follow the progress until the package arrives at your door. These are the four coolest gadgets on crowdfunding websites.
The biggest technological innovations don’t come from ‘big tech’ companies, but from smaller start-ups chasing their dreams. Thanks to crowdfunding sites, you will be the first to get your hands on the best new products.
1. Shelfy – keep your food longer
For who is it?
For those who throw away spoiled food too often
What is it?
We all try to avoid spoiling food as much as possible. Not only does it lead to a waste of money, but it also causes unnecessary CO2 emissions. Shelfy is a new device that ensures that food stays good in the refrigerator for up to 12 days longer. It actively slows down the work of bacteria and filters the air in your fridge. It also removes bad odors.
The Shelfy has a battery that lasts for 30 days, and after a while you can charge it again via USB-C. The device filters air with a filter, but you never have to replace it. You only clean it under the tap. The Shelfy can also be controlled remotely with an app, and it also works with Google Home. The device can also send a notification to your phone if you forgot to close the refrigerator door. And another important detail: this is not the first successful Kickstarter project from the makers of the Shelfy.

2. Eye-to-Cam 2 – make eye contact in video meetings
For who is it?
For those who often do video meetings with their PC or laptop
What is it?
Have you noticed that no one is looking straight ahead when you are in a video meeting? They all look sideways or down. However, you do make a better impression when you look people in the eye. It sharpens more confidence and you automatically come across as more confident, according to the makers of the Eye-to-Cam 2. But they do rely on scientific research for those statements.
With their webcam it always seems as if you are looking your online conversation partner in the eye. You place it in the center of your monitor at eye level, and it’s compact so it doesn’t cover your entire screen. When you look at a very specific place on your monitor, you can grab the camera and move it, and you can also rotate it so that it films at a certain angle. This accessory is especially useful when you are the one who often does the long presentations. The Eye-to-Cam 2 films in a 4K resolution and has an autofocus.

3. Yarbo – robotic lawnmower, leaf and snow blower
For who is it?
For those who have a lot of work in the garden
What is it?
There are already robots that combine vacuuming and mopping, and work almost fully automatically. Now a start-up has also created a robotic lawnmower that can perform other tasks. It has a blowing function and it can blow all the leaves into a pile in the fall, and in the snow it clears your garden of snow.
The Yarbo works with three different modules that you attach to the front of the device. When mowing, it can navigate intelligently, avoid obstacles, and you can set no-go zones. If it starts blowing, you can then indicate where all the leaves or snow may lie. The Yarbo can work in many conditions thanks to its tracks. When finished or runs out of battery, it charges itself at a base station. You can also leave it there, because if a thief grabs it unexpectedly, the Yarbo will start making noise.
- Yarbo – Kickstarter – 2,860 euros incl. shipping – expected in May 2023
4 . REVOXEN – usb-c switch with 8K video, 10GBps and 100W charging
For who is it?
For when you use two computers on your desk
What is it?
With the REVOXEN you can easily switch between two computers, which then connect to your monitor, mouse and keyboard at the push of a button. On the other hand, you can also let the computers work with one external SSD.
The REVOXEN has high-end specs. Via USB-C, it supports monitors with a resolution of up to 8K and it can handle a transfer speed of up to 10GB per second. There is also a separate USB-C port for power supply, and with it you can charge a device with a power of up to 100W. In the conditions below you can see the USB switch at work.

Think of this with crowdfunding
Keep in mind that with crowdfunding you always support an idea in the first place, with no real guarantee that the actual product will meet your expectations. So choose the projects and start-ups that you really believe in and follow the regular updates on development and shipping that the start-ups communicate. Supporting projects through crowdfunding is therefore not the same as shopping.
What do you think of the above products? Have you ever ordered products through crowdfunding? Did that lead to positive experiences or were there also disappointments? Let us know in the comments at the bottom of this article.
