3x why the iPhone SE 2022 is already a disappointment

It won’t be long before the iPhone SE 2022 will be launched. Its predecessor was – rightly – a great success, but this year’s SE is going to be disappointing according to the latest rumors. iPhoned tells you why you shouldn’t buy the iPhone SE 2022, and what a good alternative is.

Read on after the ad.

Don’t buy: iPhone SE 2022

When the second-generation iPhone SE came out in 2020, the iPhone landscape looked completely different. Apple presented the iPhone 11 line six months ago, destroying all hopes for a small, compact iPhone. The smallest iPhone at the time was the iPhone 11 Pro with a 5.8-inch screen.

The iPhone SE 2020 came when called. For the most part the same modern hardware as in the iPhone 11, but in the compact jacket of the iPhone 8. And the low price of only € 489 did the rest. The device was quickly sold out and the demand for it even seemed to surprise Apple. The SE 2022 is going down the same road again, but according to iPhoned it is now much more difficult and will also be disappointing. We give 3 reasons why you don’t have to wait for the iPhone SE 2022.

1. The iPhone SE 2022 is getting pretty boring

The iPhone SE 2022 seems to be a pretty boring phone. It may have an A15 chip and 5G support, but otherwise it seems to look exactly the same as its predecessor, which in turn looks very similar to the iPhone 8 from 2017.

You are right, so that is a 5 year old design. And Apple doesn’t even seem to bother to make that look different, because according to the latest rumors, the SE 2022 will appear again in the same colors as its predecessor. It almost seems like Apple doesn’t want the iPhone SE 2022 to look “new” in any way.

2. Touch ID no longer has a right to exist

Due to the corona pandemic with the mouth caps, iPhone SE users still had an advantage over the last two years compared to users with an iPhone with Face ID. Because Apple’s facial recognition could not recognize ‘half’ faces. Touch ID on the home button then works a bit easier.

But: in iOS 15.4, Face ID finally works with mouth caps! And even better: it seems that the mouth caps will disappear completely anyway. Does Touch ID still have a right to exist on the iPhone? We don’t think so. It is less practical and less safe.

3. There is a much better little phone

Probably two years ago a lot of people who wanted a small phone switched from an iPhone 8 or older. But less than half a year after the presentation of the iPhone SE 2020, Apple unveiled the iPhone 12 mini. This was smaller (!) than the SE, but it did have a borderless screen without a home button and all the tricks such as Face ID and the dual camera.

With the update to the iPhone 13 mini a year later, the last point of criticism (the moderate battery time) was also resolved. In short, in 2022 there is a much better small phone, and that is the iPhone 13 mini. And as you can see in the price comparison below, it’s not even that much more expensive than the SE 2022. And if you go for the iPhone 12 mini, the price difference is even minimal.

In short, an iPhone 12 or 13 mini is much better phone. And also remember that Apple now seems to stop with the small phones again. Want a really modern little phone? Then go for the iPhone 12 or 13 mini anyway.
