30% don’t make it to the end of the day with their phone

Anyone who knows me a little bit knows that I’m not very interested in phone camera. My interest in smartphones manifests itself in other areas. For example with the battery, because you want to easily reach the end of the day with your phone. Although that is not feasible for many people.

How big is our phone battery?

We asked more than 1,600 Androidworld readers about the battery capacity of their current smartphone. We got the following answer.

In the above result, we can see that 70 percent of our readers have a smartphone with a battery of 3,500 mAh or greater capacity. Most people own a device with a battery of between 4,000 and 4,500 mAh. This is currently pretty much the norm in the smartphone market.

How often to charge?

The size of the battery is certainly not the only factor that determines how long you last with a charge. Factors such as screen size, resolution, (variable) refresh rate, processor and the software shell also play a role. In addition, a lithium battery also wears out and you usually notice that after about two years of use.

Yet you yourself are the most important factor that determines your consumption, because the more often you use your smartphone on a daily basis, the faster it will stop. On the other hand, playing a demanding game results in greater consumption than when you read Androidworld articles on your phone, for example.

We also asked the same group (n=1658) how often they fail to reach the end of the day on a single charge. The following information came out.

AW Research: 30% don't make it to the end of the day with their phone

Just over 30 percent have to charge their smartphone more than once every day, so they don’t make it to the end of the day with one charge. The following disk diaphragm proves that the size of the battery is by no means the most important. It is a distribution of battery sizes among the group of users who charge their phone more than once a day. In this diagram you can see that more than 36 percent of those users have a battery of 4,000 mAh or more.

Conclusion

We can learn a few things from this. Firstly, it is very difficult to determine whether a smartphone battery lasts long or not. In addition to all peripheral matters, it mainly depends on what the user does with it. If, like me, you travel a lot by train and do your work there via a hotspot, your battery will run out quickly. Games and apps like Netflix always attack the stamina of your smartphone.

The simplest thing you can do is pick up the smartphone less often, because the screen is the biggest energy guzzler during use. The less often the screen turns on, the less of your battery capacity will be used. Do you want to regularly follow your notifications? Then buy a good smartwatch, so that you know in advance whether a notification is important or not. Although such a smart watch also needs to be charged.

And make sure that your phone’s battery only wears out slowly. In this article we explain how to take optimal care of your phone to extend its life. How long does your phone last daily? Let us know in the comments at the bottom of this article.
