199-euro iPhone is the laughing stock of the people

An iPhone for 199 euros? What sounds like a fraudulent lure offer is actually true. At MediaMarkt, the cult cell phone is currently available for this price. But the reactions have been mixed – and for good reason.

Apple has always been a premium manufacturer. The US group likes to have its products cost a little more. If you want an iPhone, for example, you pay more than for comparable devices from the competition. The latest MediaMarkt offer sounds almost too good to be true. A iPhone for 199 euros. Unfortunately it is.

MediaMarkt sells the iPhone 8 as a B-stock for 199 euros

Because the electronics retailer does not offer a current model of the cult cell phone. Instead, MediaMarkt is selling iPhone 8 at this price, which is already 5 years old. That alone would be enough to discourage the purchase, but there’s another catch: the $199 iPhone is B-stock (view at MediaMarkt).

Corresponding sometimes the reactions are harsh on Facebook. “Anyone who buys this just so they have an Apple device instead of putting the €200 into a current Android smartphone is seriously confused,” writes one user. Another: “You can keep the ancient apple.” Sometimes the electronics retailer is also attacked directly: “MediaMarkt is getting poorer and poorer.”

But there is also positive opinions. One user, for example, points out that there is nothing better in the price range of 200 euros in the Android sector either. And for people who otherwise can’t afford an iPhone, it’s a “great deal,” says someone else.

According to MediaMarkt, the offer is only valid on December 8 until 11:59 p.m.

This is how the iPhone 8 did in the test at the time:

Software support days are numbered

The iPhone 8 was released in September 2017. Nevertheless, Apple’s mobile phone is still supplied with the latest software. The current iOS 16 is also available for the iPhone 8. In the near future the end of support should have come anyway. Probably with iOS 17, in the best case with iOS 18 Apple should pull the plug on the iPhone 8.

If you don’t want to spend much money but still want to own an iPhone, you should rather go for the iPhone SE 2020. It has modern technology and, at 329 euros, is only slightly more expensive than the iPhone 8 – and of course new.
