These museums are great with children and ideal on a dry or sunny day, because they are (partially) in the open air. These are our favourites.

Did you know that at kidsproofplus.nl you will find all the fun outings that are suitable for children with a disability? We have put a heart on the outings that are extra accessible.

Fantastic fortress

An elevator that cuts through the earth, underground corridors, mazes, an interactive sandbox and the Netherlands in a thousand billion Minecraft blocks. This makes GeoFort in Herwijnen a fantastic fortress. Half an hour’s drive from Utrecht and definitely worth it.

Make fire

In the PreHistorisch Dorp in Eindhoven you can walk through history. In one afternoon you will pass fire makers from prehistoric times, Vikings with bows and arrows and a medieval blacksmith who makes swords. And the nice thing is that you can participate everywhere.

Locks open

The Biesbosch Museum Island is located on an island in Werkendam. A boat trip on the ferry should therefore not be missed during a visit. A great museum for children. The island is a scale model of the Biesbosch nature reserve. Complete with polders, dikes and locks. Children can splash right through this and open and close the locks themselves.

Just like in Africa

On a hot summer day, the Africa Museum’s outdoor museum almost feels like a real piece of Africa. In the museum park you can stroll with the family along traditional African residential areas with special huts and houses. Nice to peek inside.

Tour around the fortress

Centuries ago, the Romans built the sturdy Fort near Vechten. Now you will find the interactive Waterline Museum where children defeat the enemy themselves on the game table or do a virtual parachute jump. In the summer, the treasure hunts are a must. These are nice outside and take you along the most beautiful places of the fort.

Summer Zuiderzee children ♥

Get on the ferry to the outer part of the Zuiderzee Museum in Enkhuizen. The Zuiderzee Islands of Marken, Pampus, Schokland, Wieringen and Urk form a fantastic water park. With water cannons, a hidden treasure and a fifty-meter long water gutter to discover the power of water. You can regulate the flow of the water yourself.

Soil investigation

Learn about the peat in Het Veenpark in Barger-Compascuum near Emmen. With a digital treasure hunt you go on a journey of discovery. Visit the miller, the baker, the blacksmith and the clog maker. A definite favourite: tasting licorice at the grocery store.

Royal feast

Princes and princesses beware! Every year, Leeuwarden celebrates Princessedag in the Princessehof city palace. Majesties are welcome in the palace garden. There are extra fun activities for children from four to ten years old.

Historic Holland ♥

You go back in time in the Dutch Open Air Museum in Arnhem. You really experience history here. Children help with various crafts, play with old Dutch toys and roll up their sleeves in the children’s yard. A nice trip to the past.

In times of war ♥

Discover military history at the National Military Museum. Immerse yourself in wars from the past and listen to personal stories from soldiers. In Xplore – the interactive play area – children themselves go on a journey of discovery in the world of the armed forces. Outside is an assault course, water course and a large observation tower with a view over Soesterberg Air Base.

Outdoor

This ‘land of Heeren en Boeren’ is located in the historic town of Ootmarsum. With typical Saxon farmhouses and the outbuildings that the farmer needed to survive: a bakspieker, blacksmith shop, wagon workshop and wagon sheds. Doesn’t ring a bell? On to Open Air Museum Ootmarsum to discover the Twente of the past with a cool tablet treasure hunt.
