YouTube to test ads in Shorts
Now that Shorts have more than 30 billion views daily, Google is working to generate more revenue. That is why the search giant will soon be testing ads in YouTube Shorts. According to Google, the first ads would be ads for app installations.
YouTube Shorts
A little over a year ago, Google came up with a TikTok counterpart. Google called it “YouTube Shorts” and, like TikTok, wanted to reach a new audience with it. The idea of Shorts is to create creative videos of up to one minute. These videos should be easy for the makers to produce and assemble. For example, you record multiple video clips and through YouTube itself, or through other video editing apps, you can easily edit the video.
Androidworld also makes new Shorts every week. In this we discuss useful ‘tips and tricks’ for and about Android and we give impressions of smartphones and smart products. So don’t forget to subscribe and immediately tick the bell afterwards, so you don’t miss a single video.
Great user experience
According to Bloomberg, Google has informed investors that it plans to test ads in Shorts. Where Google first wanted to build up the YouTube Shorts and the user experience quietly, the company now sees room to look at generating income. According to Philipp Schindler, Google’s Chief Business Officer, Google has started experimenting with ads for app installs and other promotions. He says this: “While it may still be early, we are encouraged by the initial feedback and results from advertisers.” He stated this during a financial update of Alphabet, the parent company of Google.
The space Google sees most likely has to do with the numbers YouTube Shorts shows. For example, the platform currently has more than 30 billion daily views, a fourfold increase compared to a year ago. The choice to add advertisements now fits within Google’s image of first creating a well-functioning platform and then generating (more) income from it. Or as Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, puts it: “We focus on building a good user experience first, we will work on generating (more) revenue over time. We continue to invest in great products and services, and create opportunities for partners and local communities around the world.”
