YouTube Premium Lite subscriptions offer cheaper ad-free video watching

Do you pay for YouTube Premium just to get rid of annoying ads while watching videos or listening to music? You probably pay too much. Obviously, Google shares this view and is now testing a cheaper version of the subscription called YouTube Premium Lite in select European countries. The Android Authority portal informed about the news.

Premium Lite only offers ad removal, not on YouTube Music

The subscription was named Premium Lite and is currently available in seven European countries – Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden. Users pay 6.99 euros per month, which is 5 euros cheaper in the given countries than the standard Premium. They will pay the same amount for student subscriptions.

With a new subscription, they can still enjoy watching content on YouTube without ads. However, they won’t get access to other features that a classic subscription offers, such as downloading videos or watching in the background. YouTube Music users will also not be able to download songs and play them in the background, but they will still be bothered by ads.

Availability in other countries is not yet known

There is no information yet on whether or when a YouTube Premium Lite subscription will reach other countries. But for those users who are only interested in removing ads, the price of a new subscription may still be too high. In Slovakia, you currently pay € 7.19 per month for the standard YouTube Premium and € 4.19 per month with a student discount.
