YouTube offers YouTubers to create Shorts from their videos
Youtube adds a new option that allows you to take an extract from a video that can last up to 60 seconds in order to create Shorts. These are short vertical videos that are copy-pasted from TikTok.
In its announcement, YouTube clarifies that completed Shorts will link to the full video from which they were extracted, which could make Shorts an ideal promotional tool for the creator’s longer content — an incentive to dive into it while that YouTube continues to test monetization options for this feature. If a viewer enjoys a Short created using this tool, they won’t need to go to the creator’s channel and search for the full video, they can directly experience the content.
The new Shorts creation feature is available now on YouTube’s mobile app for iOS and Android devices, the company says. To test the novelty:
- Watch a video you uploaded
- Click on the “Create a Short” icon visible in the header of the video viewing sheet
- Video content is now imported into the Shorts authoring experience
- (Optional) Make additional edits to the new Short by trimming and cropping the original clip.
