Your iPhone will soon be able to import WhatsApp from Android

WhatsApp: ‘From Android to iOS should be easier’
We’ve been waiting for this feature for a long time, but finally we’re hearing the first official sounds that it’s actually coming. People who are tired of Android and are switching to an iPhone will soon be taking their messages and chat history from WhatsApp with them.
At least, that’s what Mark Zuckerberg told us in a Facebook post. It was a mystery to us why this option took so long. The rumors have been around for a long time. Switching from iPhone to Android with WhatsApp is already possible. If you buy an Android 12 phone or later, you can transfer WhatsApp from iPhone to Android.
Android to iPhone transfer not yet ideal
However, we find it a bit of a shame that this feature has to go through an Android app, made by Apple, called Move to iOS. We would have preferred that the transfer of WhatsApp from Android to iPhone was simply integrated in the (app) settings.
On the other hand, the transfer is not just about chats. All your media such as photos, videos and voice recordings are also transferred to iOS. The option to transfer media has been possible without WhatsApp for a while. If you want to transfer WhatsApp, you need an iPhone with at least iOS 15.5.
How does this transfer work?
If you have a new iPhone, you will immediately receive an option that indicates this when starting up. You can transfer the data via the ‘Transfer from Android’ option. To do this, the ‘Move to iOS’ app of your old Android smartphone must be turned on. Your new iPhone will immediately look for this app.
Fortunately, WhatsApp can now also be chosen as a source of data. Has the iPhone found the Android with WhatsApp? Then you only have to authenticate on the new iPhone. Voilà, your messages and media have been transferred!
